Useful example from my own experience which we call “Navigator”

Let’s take 8 military language learners; they will be locked in 2 separate classroom 4 students in each room. So instructor divide them in to teams one of them will be “Terrorists” and second team they will be “US Special Forces”. During the all activity students will use only Target Language.

For this activity we need following equipment:
· 2 PC with internet connection + full accessories microphones, speakers etc.
· 2 Smart boards
· 2 cell phones (students phones is OK)
Instructor prepared materials:
Military map of some specific location, for example it could be any city in Afghanistan or Iraq.
Little scenario for this game like “Chasing or Hunting” by using radio-information, listening conversations, in order to find the location and mark location or moving points on the real military map.
Audio file as a message for “Terrorists” team, with order and direction.
Instruction for the students with clear explanations all of the rules and options.
Instructor divide roles in each team:
“Terrorists” team
- 1 student navigates the points of locations on the Smart Board –Map.
- 1 student will be writer on the white board he’s responsible for all records.
- 1 student is responsible for the listening Audio-message in TL (direction).
- 1 student report-writer, who will summarize at the end all actions.
“US Special Forces”team
- 1 student navigates the points of locations on the Smart Board –Map.
- 1 student will be writer on the white board he’s responsible for all records.
- 1 student is responsible for the listening all “radio-chat”
- 1 student report-writer, who will summarize at the end all actions.

“US Special Forces” team will be able to listen the conversation in TL (Target Language) through the online contacted PC from the “Terrorists” classroom (you can use bunch of communication tools such as SKYPE, GOOGLE,YAHOO at list cell phones of your students).
Its really fun and interesting activity, just try ones and you will see…, then you can tell me what kind of outcomes or to be more specific what kind of skills will improve in that activity.
